Physical Education Department
Dear Parents/Guardians and students:
We are concerned about your child’s total fitness, both physical and social. We attempt to achieve this goal through various lifetime activities, team sports, and group activities. The following rules and expectations are important for your child’s success in our program.
Rules and Expectations
- No gum, food, or drink in gym or locker room.
- No fighting. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
- You will dress out and participate everyday.
- No swearing and/or put-downs.
Procedures
- Students will have 3-5 minutes to dress out.
- Sit in squads facing the bleachers with legs crossed and mouths closed.
- Attendance taken.
- Exercise: On even days (2,4,6,8) students will run (set of lines, karaoke or grapevine, half and back, backwards down and forwards back).
Odd days students will do exercises (push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, and line jumps).
- Explain the activity for the day and begin.
- 2-3 minutes before the bell let students dress.
- Students are responsible for making sure their gym lockers are closed and locked. The school and staff are not responsible for any misplaced articles.
- The bell does not dismiss the students!
Dressing Out
- Shorts/sweats are permissible.
- T-shirt/sweatshirt (all shirts need sleeves, no tank tops or belly shirts)
- Tennis shoes with socks (no boots, heely’s or dress shoes)
- 1st no dress is 25 push-ups, 2nd is 50 push-ups, 3rd no dress is 75 push-ups, plus after school detention and 10% of your grade.
Grading
10 points daily
- 2 points for dressing out
- 2 points for exercise
- 2 points for participation
- 2 points for teamwork
- 2 points for sportsmanship
50 points max. Per unit
i.e. football, team handball, tennis, wrestling
Referrals
- Fighting (including play fighting)
- Sexual harassment
- Drug Abuse
- Abuse to teacher
Medical
- Students will pretreat before coming to class.
- Points will be taken off if they have to go treat during class.
- Student must have note from parent to be excused from daily activity. The note is only good for one day.
- If student has a serious injury or illness, a doctor’s note with dates is required to excuse the student for more than one day.
- Student is still required to dress out and do the best he or she can.
