East Middle School
East MS Construction Calendar for 2021-22 School Year
As you know, our building is currently under construction and we are all excited as we look outside and see the incredible changes that are taking place in our landscape. With these changes come some accommodations to construction. To ensure that learning will remain undisrupted and staff members will have adequate time to move their classrooms into the new addition, we are adjusting our school calendar for the 2021-22 school year.
The adjustments will be minor and include the following changes:
We will be extending the beginning of our winter break. Our new dates for winter break are Dec. 13 - Jan. 5, with Jan. 4 and 5 being teacher work days. Students will return to school on Jan. 6.
Our bell schedule will return to 8:30 a.m. - 3:57 p.m., which is what it was prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a reminder, through the use of grant and bond funding, East is receiving a partial new school building and interior remodeling to many portions of the existing structure. The new portion of the school will be a large, two-story addition that will include new classrooms, a cafeteria, library and space for elective programs and administrative offices.
The school’s existing art wing, gym building and auditorium will receive remodeling throughout, which will provide aesthetic updates and improve portions of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems inside the school.
Construction began in fall 2020 and the two-story addition will be ready for students when they return on Jan 4. The remaining remodeling work is expected to be completed during summer break the following year.
These improvements will not only update the flow and functionality throughout our building, but will benefit many of our school’s academic programs. At East, we are excited to attend school on the updated site. I appreciate your continued support throughout this construction project.
